Holidays in Term Time

The rules relating to holidays in term time have been reviewed and updated by Bradford Children’s Services in line with government guidelines which state:-

Headteacher should NOT authorise holidays and trips abroad in term time. Permission for this type of absence should only be granted in the most exceptional circumstances.

Parents should not take their children out of school without first seeking the schools permission.

The school will take into account;

  • The time of year for the proposed trip
  • Its nearness to any exam dates
  • The child’s overall attendance pattern
  • Any holidays already taken in the school year
  • The age and stage of education of the child
  • The ability of the child to catch up the work that they have missed
  • The reason why parents are requesting the time off during term time
  • Schools may also include other criteria when considering a request for leave of absence

The following reasons will not be considered acceptable reasons for requesting holidays in term time:-

  • Availability of cheap holidays
  • Availability of desired accommodation
  • Poor weather experienced in school holiday periods

If you would like a copy of Ellar Carr’s attendance Policy, please request this in writing with your child, or via email office@ellarcarr.co.uk. This information should help to inform your decisions regarding holidays and absences from school.
