As I am sure you are aware from weather and news reports that it has been predicted that we may encounter severe weather conditions.
We will make every effort to keep the school open, however during bad weather as we must consider the health & safety of all pupils and staff, conditions of the school site and other emergencies.
Often the decision to close the school can only take place in the morning. We are aware that this may present real difficulties for many families in relation to child care provision at short notice. To support you we will endeavour to make the decision by 7am. If we decide to close the school our normal practice is to inform Bradford Metropolitan District Borough Council as soon as possible so that their websites can be updated.
School closures can be found on the internet on;
School Website: www.ellarcarr.co.uk
Bradford Schools online
Local radio stations also announce school closures;
Pulse of West Yorkshire www.pulse1.co.uk/local/school-closures/ (97.5fm -102.5fm)
Heart Radio www.heart.co.uk/yorkshire (106-108fm – 107.6fm)
Please note that radio stations do not announce when schools re-open, you will need to check online during longer periods of adverse weather for a return to school date.
Occasionally we may need to close school earlier than normal, we will however try to avoid this if at all possible. If we do need to close the whole school earlier than normal then we will need your permission to send your child home. It is of utmost importance that we therefore have contact numbers in school, please ensure that the school office is advised should you change your number.
Message from the Head Teacher
I am excited and proud to have been given the opportunity of the headship at Ellar Carr. Thank you for taking the time to read our website. We hope that by doing so you will begin to get a flavour of the warm, exciting and vibrant place that Ellar Carr is.
At Ellar Carr, our pupils are respected as individuals and we aim to give them opportunities that would not otherwise be available to them in a mainstream school setting. We believe in making sure that each pupil feels safe and secure, knowing that dedicated staff are here to help them achieve their full potential. Each pupil has access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which is differentiated to ensure all of their needs are met.
Every day we are witness to the outstanding achievements of our pupils, facilitated by a diversity of practice from our staff team. This practice has been recognised by Ofsted as ‘Good’ and we are naturally proud of this – however, the greater prize is seeing our young people grow into caring, responsible and active members of society.
We cannot put everything that we want to share with you in this website but hopefully we can provide an insight and our always happy to welcome visitors to the school. I look forward to getting to know all our pupils and their parents and carers over the course of the year and thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
